chkdsk command - Checks a disk and displays a status report.
Syntax:-
[[path]filename] [/F] [/P] [/R] [/X]
Verifies a storage volume (hard disk, partition, floppy disk, flash drive, etc) for file system integrity.
Description: - CHKDSK (short for Checkdisk) is a command on computers running DOS, OS/2 and Microsoft Windows operating systems that display the file system integrity status of hard disks and floppy disk and can fix logical file system errors. It is similar to the fsck command in Unix.Options:
- /F : Fixes errors on the volume (without /F , chkdsk only detects errors)
- /P : Forces a full verification
- /R : Searches for defective sectors and recovers legible information (applies /F)
- /X : Unmounts the volume before processing if needed. (Note: Unmounting temporarily invalidates all pointers/handlers to the volume until process is completed)
